About Joe Shammas
Introduction to Joe Shammas
Greetings to all my valley neighbors, family, friends and supporters!
As a proud first generation immigrant born to George Shammas (Syriac Christian Orthodox) and Virginia Arakelian (Armenian) and a United States Navy veteran with almost twenty five years of service first as an enlisted person and later as a commissioned officer I am humbly seeking your support and vote to serve as your congressman in California’s 29th Congressional District.
I am running for Congress because I want to work for what matters most. I believe our focus must shift back to our communities, our children, seniors, veterans and our small businesses. Our main focus must revolve around our schools and places of worship to help rebuild our communities by better educating our children without the excessive weight of student loans and exorbitant costs of healthcare. By providing not only improved access to higher education, but also improving classroom availability as well. We must address the needs of our communities and protecting our homeland before any costly overseas foreign military adventures. Together, we can build opportunities by focusing on the following:
Help small businesses grow: We need to take actions in cooperation with local chambers of commerce, business associations and neighborhood councils to recognize small businesses as the real engines of our economy. We must reduce regulatory obstacles and support growth to help small businesses thrive.
Making education affordable and accessible to all: Today, our youth seek higher education, but too often find themselves crippled by the excessive weight of student loans. Those seeking an opportunity for higher education and a better life should not have to worry about the high financial burdens.
Making quality healthcare available to everyone: As the wealthiest country we should be able to provide the highest quality healthcare to our children, seniors, and veterans. Everyone should be able to choose his or her doctor and get medical attention when needed. Too often, those who need health care the most find themselves waiting too long to get access to specialists and having to pay ridiculous out of pocket costs.
Support for Our Seniors and Veterans: Our Seniors and veterans served our nation honorably and are the foundation of our democracy. They built and defended our way of life and we must honor and protect them
We love our country for the promise of opportunity, but it is time that those opportunities are made available to everyone. As a retired military officer, I will work very hard to keep our people safe from terrorism at home and abroad. I am committed to serving the best interests of our community and ensuring that we have a voice in Congress.

Why I Am Running for Congress
My name is Joseph Shammas. First and foremost, I am NOT a politician. As a proud first generation immigrant and a United States Navy veteran with almost twenty five years of honorable service first as a Hospital Corpsman and later as a Medical Service Corps Officer. I am humbly seeking your support and vote to serve as your congressman in California’s 29th Congressional District.
I am running for the United States Congress because I believe it is time to repair the ladder of opportunity for Californians and Americans. I will fight hard for the jobs our people need by bringing home federal dollars that will improve business and educational opportunities for the San Fernando Valley. By providing education and training in conjunction with local chambers of commerce, business associations and neighborhood councils our communities will benefit.
I believe that we elect people to government to help solve the issues facing us, the voters the constituents. Unfortunately, most of our problems today are as a direct result of and reaction to actions of our politicians.
Our politicians continue to demonstrate little value for the lives of our young military men and women. Politicians eagerly engage our peace loving country in “Foreign Wars”. In the process our national debt has soared coupled with the continuous loss of our young military men and women. It seems that the mismanagement of our foreign relations is deliberate. The politicians in Washington are the biggest obstacle to our nation’s security.
Our national attention must refocus on domestic issues on job creation on fostering business creativity and innovation, by educating our youth and retraining our veterans and seniors.
As a retired military officer, I will fight for our veterans who deserve our support upon their return. I will work very hard to keep our people safe from terrorism at home and abroad. Thank you for your consideration.
Time for new leadership!
All law abiding Californians including Immigrants to be treated fairly and equally and to live in peace and tranquility without fear of persecution and or deportation.
Improve Valley Employment so that everyone who is looking for work can find work. Support small businesses through better tax incentives and credits can be at the center of community achievement by providing on the job training to seniors veterans and new entrants to the workforce to prepare them for meaningful employment. In cooperation with local chambers of commerce, business associations and neighborhood councils we can succeed in reinvigorating our communities and meet the challenges.
Education is at the heart of our mission. Our children are the future we must work together to provide them with high quality education with available courses and classrooms to compete and grow without the burden of high student loans. Some will pursue academics while others vocational fields.
Healthcare should be a fundamental right and be readily and reasonably affordable to all. Together with State and Federal programs we must ensure that healthcare is affordable and accessible to all our residents.
Seniors and veterans contributed to building and protecting our country. We owe them a great debt. Together through educational and skills training programs they can to reintegrate as productive members of our society.
Schools and churches and other places of worship must be the cornerstone of community focus for our valley residents. Through enhanced academic, vocational and adult education and guidance our communities will prosper and grow.
